New Skaters Welcome

Winnipeg Roller Derby is doing several annual intake training sessions for new skaters

If you are interested in participating with us, please fill out the form below.

We host new skater training camps throughout the year. Our September skater camp has just wrapped up and we hope to host another in early 2025.

Please fill in the interest form below or sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about what’s coming up for the Winnipeg Roller Derby League.

This page will outline the basics of how the league works and what you can learn.

Even if you’ve never skated before, our league will help you learn the basics like:

  • Skate forward and backwards

  • Stopping forwards and backwards

  • Lateral movement on skates

  • Turning around

  • Stride, glide and crossovers

  • Stepping and Jumping on roller skates

  • How roller skates work so you can perform at your best

  • And of course, how to play roller derby!

Fees to Join the League

Our league has monthly dues to cover the cost of running the business and locations. If you’re a returning or seasoned skater, you can get started right away with one month free. Read all about our one month free program here.

  • Regular Monthly Dues: $55.00 paid monthly via subscription on our website

  • Equity Dues: Available for anyone who self-identifies with the following: I am Indigenous or a member of the Global Majority, or I have socioeconomic barriers (low-income families/low-resource communities) to my participation. $25.00, paid monthly via subscription purchased on our website

Find all the details on paying dues here.

If paying dues online doesn’t work for you, we can make arrangements. Contact us here.

Communication with the League

We communicate via an app called BAND. You’ll get an invitation link immediately after you purchase your dues to your inbox in your welcome email.

Weekly League Practice (various locations across Winnipeg)

Our league-wide practices happen at least once a week between 7:00 - 9:15 PM. These practice sessions will be group managed and is a great way to meet other skaters in the league and learn from different types of skaters. They are all listed in our Band app, so make sure you follow the link provided in your welcome email to get all the dates!
